actually the gene that makes men, umm i suck at bio so is xy or xx guy? anyways, the guy gene is getting smaller and smaller with each gen. So MAYBE you guys will become extinct.

In my opinion, even if this is going to be scientifically feasible, which will be years, decades, centuries, or even millenia from now (*cough*), the real question is, will we allow it to happen? Just because something can be done, doesn't necessarily mean that it should be done. You also need to look at the socioeconomic consequences stemming from such drastic measures. Personally, I think whenever you start playing God, you're playing with fire, and you will get burned. For all of our sakes, let's hope that day never comes.

The XX combination produces a female.
The XY combination produces a male.

They have already mapped the majority of the human genome, scientists can effectively manipulate it to the point where you can choose the sex of your baby. ....

A perticular species of aphid can create an offspring which is genetically identical to itself...(both being female and effectively a clone)...it can happen I guess

Sperm is just a delivery mechanism containing the other half of a genetic code. Make a synthetic delivery mechanism, and inserting DNA into it is rather 'easy'. And by 'easy' I mean, it's doable, but it's not literally 'easy'. You get the point.

If you got rid of men, it'd be a matter of simply taking another woman's DNA and inserting it into the delivery mechanism, and artificial insemination already exists. And no, you wouldn't get more men. X from a woman + X from another woman = all women.

If you used DNA from the same woman, in a way, it'd be like artificial parthenogensis, though that's just a random comment. If you could do that, you could use other women, which enables the gene pool to be just as varied and diverse as its always been, sans the Y chromosome.

Now, as for eliminating men -
Retrovirus, to attack and replace the Y chromosome in order to manufacture only X's. <_<

Yes, I've put a little thought into this before this moment, but mostly just in a science fiction story vein.
It's just that as with many things that were once science fiction, this kind of story is actually on its way to being a possibility

Anyway, just some musing on-topic. And let's watch the sweeping generalizations about women, in particular, the name calling. It's no more appropriate than an attack on men.

I think the question is not how, but why? Why would people want to eliminate the other half of the population? To me, that's just a little inconceivable, even if it is achievable, from a scientific standpoint.

There is also a lizard that can produce asexually.

With cross species fertilizing and artificial wombs, the stronger of the 2 halves of a species would remove/replace the weaker half.

So one could say that women may become rundant, in a sci-fi hypothetical sense.

and another idea to think about is about how some cultures favor males. i think even some cultures kill off female babies in certain circumstances. so i dont think we will ever see a world full of females,

I just watched the Jurrasic Park movies. Playing God ends horribly, because human naure is greed. And we will do anything for money/fame/power.

I mean really look at the movies. Some company could re-make dinosaurs, and they did. Now they are taing over two islands and eating everyone that goes onto them. Playing God is horrible.

i know this wont happen during my lifetime so im not all that bothered but i can see reproduction on a whole becoming less like a lottery and more like a shop

I forgot the science show, didnt seem important to me, but they said the Y chromosone was getting smaller with each generation and they thought it a possibilty that men may actually become extinct becase the chromosone dissappears altogether.

Nothing to do with controlling birth, your gene simply wont exist. This is kinda a fair way off from what I understand, so by such time genetics would reproduce males or understand this issue.
